Frequently asked questions

Benefits for landowners and farmers

Solar farms are a proven form of renewable energy which can be deployed relatively easily on suitable lands. The lands can be any shape or size and have a proven track record in Ireland and internationally and provide a landowner with a secure, stable and predictable income.

Sustainable long-term income stream

The 40-year lease between both parties provides the landowners with a competitive financial package and market rent per acre that is index-linked.

Farming

One of the many benefits to farmers is that they can continue to graze sheep on the land around and under the panels.

Business growth

The 40-year lease offered by Harmony Solar is considered a secure income-earning asset and can be used as security for any financing facility the landowner wishes to enter.

Retirement

We present the landowner with the opportunity to earn a competitive market rent per acre with relatively little input and provide the landowner with a secure income for retirement.

The next generation

We understand the needs and requirements of landowners in transferring lands to the next generation. We commit to being as helpful as possible while dealing with any transfer to another party. A solar farm helps to improve financial planning for the future and the long-term income stream gives the landowner security.

    How it works

    1

    Site Identification

After meeting with you and walking your land, Harmony Solar will assess the suitability of your land for a solar farm, including an initial planning assessment and a grid network capacity evaluation.

    2

    Sign Option Agreement

The landowner obtains independent legal advice. Once the option agreement is signed between the landowner and Harmony Solar, the landowner receives a sign-up fee.

    3

    Submit for Planning

Once both parties have signed the option agreement, Harmony Solar will prepare and lodge a robust planning application for the solar farm.

    4

    Grid Application

Once Harmony Solar has lodged a planning permission for the solar farm, we can make an application for a grid connection.

    5

    Construction

Once planning permission has been obtained, a grid offer has been accepted and a contract is in place to sell the electricity generated, the project is ready for construction.

The project company, which will be wholly owned by ESB Solar at that point, will enter the 40 year lease with the landowners who will receive their first quarterly rental payment.

A liaison officer will be in place before and during construction to work with the landowner to ensure a smooth transition from the existing farming practice, into project construction.

    6

    Operations and Maintenance

Once the solar farm is operational, the landowner will receive a welcome pack from ESB Solar’s in-house asset management team who will oversee the long term operation and maintenance of the solar farm.
